Dear Basketball Parents,
Welcome to Cowboy Basketball!  Our goal is to teach our young men dedication to hard work, ability to work with teammates, gain self-confidence, and overall, have a great experience playing high school basketball. Cowboy basketball is set on the standards of sportsmanship and excellence.  May we all represent ourselves in a positive and supportive manner and set a good example for our young men representing Canyon High School. Thank you for your support.  Let's have another great season!!!

Coach Robinson is in his first year on the Canyon Basketball staff.  He was previously at Valencia High School from 1995-2015, spending the first 3 years in the Girls Program, the next 2 years as the Boys Freshmen Coach and the last 14 as the Boys JV Head Coach.  He was also a Varsity Assistant from 2009-2014.
He has had the pleasure and honor to work with hundreds of players and coaches over the years throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.  He is very excited to start a new chapter here at Canyon.
He and his wife, Cheryl, are 32 year residents of Canyon Country and have 3 adult children. Together they own a franchise management company here in Santa Clarita.

Nick O’Linn is going into his first year as Freshman Head Coach. Coach O’Linn played at Saugus High before graduating in 2013.  He has 2 years of coaching experience at the high school level, where he had the great opportunity to work alongside Coach Dunwoody, who he now rejoins at Canyon. Coach O’Linn has also gained experience working as an assistant coach at West Ranch, as well as with two well-known travel ball teams, Evolution and Showtime. Coach O’Linn is currently a Kinesiology Major at College of the Canyons and is in the process of joining the LAPD.

Alex Dunwoody is heading into his first season as Head Coach of the Boys Varsity Basketball Team for Canyon High School. As a passionate coach entering his 7th year of coaching, he has been able to influence these athletes into becoming better competitors and well rounded individuals. Coach Dunwoody has also gained knowledge and experience as a coach while being an assistant coach at College of the Canyons, where he was once an athlete, and at Waldorf University, where again he competed as a student athlete and received his education with a degree in Physical Education/Health. Coach Dunwoody will also be entering his third year as an educator at La Mesa Middle School.

Coach Monfared enters his 5th season as varsity assistant coach and 3rd year as a teacher at Canyon. Coach Monfared is very excited to continue working with the student athletes at Canyon and helping them develop into quality young men alongside Coach Dunwoody. He is a 2006 Canyon graduate where he played under Coach Phillips on the 2006 league title team, which is considered one of the most successful, closely knit teams in Canyon’s history. In addition to playing and learning under Coach Phillips, he had the fortune to learn under Coach Sean Delong who played a big role in his development as a person, teacher, and coach. Coach Monfared loves constantly preaching the importance of chemistry and hard work when it comes to the game.
Coach Monfared went on to San Francisco State University where he earned a bachelor degree in the field of Kinesiology.  Coach Monfared loves anything basketball, whether it be watching, playing, or fixing basketball tendencies, he loves to be around the game at all times. During his free time, Ali enjoys playing basketball, watching Laker games, listening to music, being around family, friends, and his dog Harley.
